TAOlife Newsletter / January 2015 / TAO Inspired Living

Greetings TAO Family and Friends!

Here we are in 2015 and it looks like a year full of great potential and positive change. Of course the New Year is a natural time to make new plans, new intentions, and new promises to ourselves and others. Remember these tips as you consider your New Year’s resolutions: make your goals as specific and behavioral as possible (instead of, “I will lose ten pounds,” try, “I will eat smaller portions and will exercise four times a week for forty minutes”); write your intention and plan down and keep it somewhere visible; share your intentions with a coach or encouraging friend; and create some way to monitor your steps to help you stay on track (use a calendar, an app, a coach, a checklist etc.).

This is high season in Mexico as folks from colder climes seek the warm weather and sunshine Mexico offers, but those looking for hot weather should keep in mind that Mexico's weather is not uniformly hot, and this is also one of the coldest months of the year south of the border.

Our team is excited about 2015 and we have lots of great plans for making the community the best it can be. Expect to see some great speakers at TAO this year, wonderful weather and developments in the Riviera Maya and countless reasons to visit. 2015 is the year to concrete our commitments, not only in our personal lives but also in our professional live too.

My thought of the month: Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. - Norman Vincent Peale.

All of us here at TAO are wishing you a wonderful new year, filled with the very best of health and happiness.

New Year's Day

New Year's Day

January 1st

This is a national holiday and all-around quiet day. Most stores and businesses are closed as folks recuperate from the revelry of New Year's Eve. Museums, archaeological sites, and most tourist attractions are open on their regular schedule.

Three Kings Day

January 6th

January 6th is Three Kings Day in Mexico, known as the Día de Reyes. This is Epiphany on the church calendar, the 12th day after Christmas, when the Magi arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus. In Mexico children receive gifts on this day, brought by the three kings, los Reyes Magos, Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar. Some children receive gifts from both Santa Claus and the Kings, but Santa is seen as an imported custom, and the traditional day for Mexican children to receive gifts is January 6.

Jungle Maya Tulum

Jungle Maya Tulum

This tour lets you view Mexico’s scenery from land and sea. The water-based part of the trip involves snorkelling in Sac-Actun cenote, the world’s longest underground river. You’ll brave the Nohoch Nah Chiich cavern, a mysterious spot characterised by rock formations and millennia-old stalactites and stalagmites. Then, you’ll swap your snorkel and flippers for a 4x4, to trundle through the rainforest. There’ll be a stop for a swim in Yaxmuul cenote, an underground natural cave pool. Here, your guide will give you an insight into a traditional Mayan purification ceremony.

TAO Foundation

Here at TAO we are a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the social and ecological conditions of the Riviera Maya and related global regions. We do this by donating talent and funds; creating sustainable local projects; capacity building; and education. Locally, we focus on the social welfare and the preservation of the Mayan community, it´s culture, and our jungle and ocean ecosystems.
