TAOlife Newsletter / February 2015 / TAO Inspired Living

Greetings TAO Family and Friends!

February is upon us and the high season continues in the Riviera Maya. As you continue your journey towards spring the winter days can feel long and demanding. This gives us a wonderful chance to reflect on what we need most in times of stress and endurance.

The first Monday of the month (February 2, 2015) is a national holiday in honor of Constitution Day. Carnival celebrations kick off on the 26th in many destinations. In terms of the weather, this is generally one of the driest months of the year and temperatures are warming up.

February's Valentine's Day offers some solutions for stress management: the best prevention for exhaustion and the wear and tear of stress is to stay closely connected to the people, places and things you love most. Don't wait for special days, events or hard times to connect with the things that fill your heart. Keep your heart full.

Warm, festive and generous, this is how most foreigners who’ve had the opportunity to live for a while among us define Mexicans. They say that not only are we known for displaying our willingness to show affection, but also the need for feeling pampered by those closest to us.

Maybe that’s why we’ve embraced Valentine’s Day with such enthusiasm every February 14th, a date that many consider somewhat commercial, but one that we’ve enriched with our traditions as well as an original idea or two about how to show our love for someone, here in Mexico.

It’s true that celebrating this date has no connection with our history, but then again; love is a cause for celebration for all human beings and civilizations. And just as the Greeks and the Romans had deities that represented this feeling in all its various shades.

Once a week, spend a couple of hours in a place you love - this could be in nature, engaged in a sport or in a gallery. Once a week share a meal, in an intentional and spacious way, with someone you love (no rushing and no TV). Finally, be sure you find the signs and symbols of love that inspire you and keep the close. Placing a token rock, a meaningful photo, or a spiritual message somewhere that you will see it every day can make a difference and keep your attitude afloat.

My quote of the month: Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone - we find it with another. - Thomas Merton.

Happy February everyone!

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day

February 4th

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. It can affect almost any part of the body. The growths often invade surrounding tissue and can metastasize to distant sites. Many cancers can be prevented by avoiding exposure to common risk factors, such as tobacco smoke. In addition, a significant proportion of cancers can be cured, by surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, especially if they are detected early

Many people around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day by showing appreciation for the people they love or adore. Drink Wine Day

Drink Wine Day

February 18th

A glass of wine a day keeps the cardiologist away, or so they say. That may be the reason there is such a thing as Drink Wine Day, but who’s to say we needed a reason to gurgle down a glass of our favourite zesty Bordeaux, anyway?

International Mother Language Day

February 21st

Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.

Climb the Pyramid at Coba

Climb the Pyramid at Cobá

Archaeologists believe Cobá was one of the most important ruin sites on the Yucatan Peninsula. The design and purpose of this settlement was very different from other Mayan cities, with various settlements existing in one area. The white roads lead from each settlement to the main pyramid, Nohoch Mul.
