Dear TAO Family and Friends, Summer time is here at TAO. The weather, so far has been lovely here in the Riviera Maya, but it certainly has been full of surprises elsewhere. The ability to manage surprise and keep an open mind to change is one of the hallmarks of healthy, happy, resilient people. How do you handle change and surprise? Many traditions actually encourage the embrace of mystery and many professionals disciplines even place a great deal of training emphasize on how to manage the unexpected. One great exercise to boost your power of curiosity and openness to mystery is to keep a “Surprise Journal” for one week or longer. In a Surprise Journal you take time at the end of every day to write about one or two things that surprised you in your day. At first, most people find that not much surprises them and that their life is very patterned. But if you persist and insist that you enter something each day, you will realize that being open to surprise is less about how in control you are or how stable life is, and much more about your sense of wonder. There is always something surprising, changing or amazing, every day of our lives – from simple things like the flight of a bird, to the growth of a child, or the changes in world affairs. Let July be a month full of wonder, mystery and the embrace of surprise. Soon you will see that things are always changing and miracles are unfolding every day. My quote of the month: Have a great month everyone Isaac Henares |
