TAOlife Newsletter / November 2015 / TAO Inspired Living

Dear TAO Family and Friends,

November is a magical month in Mexico as we begin with “Dia De Los Muertos,” a very special time in which families and friends gather to create colorful altars of celebration and memory for their departed loved ones. The culmination of the celebration is on November 1 and 2, in conjunction with the Catholic holidays, All Saints Day and All Souls Day. On these days, and most especially during the evenings, people gather around altars and graves dedicated to their loved one. A family or friends may spend an entire night in celebration of their lost loved one.

This incredible tradition of honoring the dead is found in many parts of Mexico and helps people to experience grief and the memory of lost loved ones in a way that embraces honor, respect, playfulness, music, food, drink and a joyful spirit. This tradition offers a wonderful reflection for the month of November: we can reflect on what we are letting go of in our lives and look to our losses with both sadness, and gratitude for what we have received.

Change and loss is always a two way street. It’s important to face the sorrow and embrace the emotions might otherwise keep us stuck; we can also turn from sorrow towards gratitude as we embrace lessons learned. This month, ask yourself, “what is it time to release,” and “what loss have I yet to learn from and celebrate?”

My quote of the month Quien con la esperanza vive, alegre muere which basicallymeans He who lives with hope dies happy.

Happy month of November everyone

Eco-tourists spend more than cruise passengers

An eco-tourist stays on average 12 days in a destination and spends about $140 a day during the stay, compared with a day and $89 for a cruise tourist, said Christopher Gonzalez Baca, director of the National Commission on Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) during the presentation of results of the Sixth Cozumel Bird Festival and the presentation of the agenda of the seventh edition of this event on the Island of the Swallows.

Christ The King Day in Mexico

November 22nd

Christ the King Day (El día de Cristo Rey) is a religious celebration in Mexico held on the Sunday before Advent. It honors Jesus Christ as the king of all kings.

Pope Pius XI instituted the Christ the King feast in 1925 as a way of acknowledging Jesus’ authority and power. The town of Guanajuato in central Mexico had a monument of Jesus known as Christ the King (Cristo Rey). This monument – except for the head and heart – was destroyed in an air raid in 1927. Afterward, a new statue was built to honor “Christ the King”.

RECIPE: Ancient Ways for Comfort on Cold Days: Mexican Hot Chocolate

Story goes, that for centuries, a woman could find a mate in many Mexican regions if she was able to make a good and considerable amount of foam when making hot chocolate. Otherwise, suitors would not turn their heads to her direction regardless of any other virtue. What’s more, it was the mother of the groom to be, who judged how good the foam was.
