We Are TAO Newsletter / October 2015 / TAO Inspired Living

Dear TAO Family and Friends,

October is here and once again we are moving into the most exciting event season of our year.

Our Inspired Yoga Meetup event has so far been a great success. Wayne Krassner will continue to give his amazing classes at the TAO Wellness Center until the 6th of October. From the 6th – 12th October we will have the world famous Swami Sudir Anand. We are offering great discounts for homeowners and renters. Please contract Enrique at events@taoinspiredliving.com for more information and prices.

This month we will have an incredible range of programs from the international Festival of Mayan Culture in Merida which will be celebrated through a wide variety of cultural events including concerts, dance performances, exhibits, conferences and workshops. The Tulum Sea Turtle Festival is held annually in Tulum, the Sea Turtle Festival is a free event which encourages participants to learn about sea turtles and familiarize themselves with the various organizations that are trying to protect them.

Also, October is a special month in Mexico as we head towards “Día de los Muertos,” a very special time at the end of the month, and in the very beginning of November, in which families and friends gather to create colorful altars of celebration and memory for their departed loved ones. This incredible tradition of honoring the dead is found in many parts of Mexico and helps people to experience grief and the memory of lost loved ones in a way that embraces honor, respect, playfulness, music, food, drink and a joyful spirit. This tradition offers a wonderful reflection for the month of October: during the autumn months and a time of seasonal change, we can reflect on what we are letting go of in our lives and look to our losses with both sadness, and gratitude for what we have received. Change and loss is always a two way street. It’s important to face the sorrow and embrace the emotions might otherwise keep us stuck; we can also turn from sorrow towards gratitude as we embrace lessons learned.

For the first time, Merida will be the host city of the “Half Marathon Rock n Roll”. This amazing race is a 21K long where the runners will dress up in Day of The Dead costumes. The runners will race through the streets of Merida, where they will pass by many Mayan monuments, mansions, parks and cathedrals

My quote of the month The living are made of nothing but flaws. The dead, with each passing day in the afterlife, become more and more impeccable to those who remain earthbound. ― Anna Godbersen

Turtle Season So Far… A FEW REMINDERS FOR NESTING/HATCHING SEASON

Avoid being on the beach from 9PM to 5AM

This is when the mama turtles are looking for a dark, quiet place to nest. Think about it. Would your mother/wife/sister want to give birth in front of a noisy crowd of people?

Never touch or interfere with

  • nesting or hatching turtles
  • turtle nests
  • nest identification stakes or zone markers
  • turtle tracks on the beach

If you encounter a turtle or hatchling

  • do not approach or block its path
  • never touch it

Keep the beach dark

  • turn off all outside lighting at dusk
  • draw curtains or turn off inside lighting in the evening
  • do not use flash photography
  • do not use standard white-light flashlights

RECIPE: Dare To Make Yucatecan Tamales!

Making Yucatecan tamales is not difficult, but it is a very time consuming process. It can take a whole day to prepare a large batch of tamales but what emerges from the steamer at the end of the process is a glorious representation of the flavors of Yucatán.
