Dear TAO Community
This past month the Olympic Games have gotten the attention of the entire world, as we watch some of the most talented people on the planet come together in Rio, to show off their hard work, years of training, and watch as they come together to form a global athletic community. Much like this special occasion, our TAO Community brings together people from all over the world with unique perspectives, challenges, backgrounds, and gifts…making TAO a special place for all of us to be a part of.
September is definitely a month of new beginnings. Children go back to school, people come back from summer vacation. It is a good month to refocus our energies. This month we are continuing our work with the Ecological Center in Akumal with our monthly Beach Cleanup on September 9th at 5 p.m. The TAO Foundation is supporting a Women’s Clothing Workshop with the women of Yaxche on September 29th.
Our new Communications Manager Antonio Jimenez is excited to be a part of the TAO Community and make connections with all of you. Please stay tuned for new events and updates these upcoming weeks.

Independence Day is a national public holiday in Mexico. Banks, schools, government offices and many businesses are closed. Some streets and roads may be closed or restricted in major cities to make way for large celebrations.
It is a common misconception in the U.S. that Cinco de Mayo, May 5, is Mexican Independence Day. But Sept. 16 is the real date of Mexican independence. Independence Day celebrates the day Miguel Hidalgo is believed to have made the cry of independence (El Grito de la Independencia) to revolt against the Spaniards, in the town of Dolores, in the north-central part of the Mexican state of Guanajuato.
Mexicans celebrate their country’s Independence Day with fireworks, parties (fiestas), food, dance and music. Flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – are seen in public areas in cities and towns in Mexico. Whistles and horns are blown and confetti is thrown to celebrate this festive occasion. "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la independencia” are shouted amidst the crowds on this day.
Every year at 11 p.m. on Sept. 15 in Mexico City, Mexico’s president rings the bell of the National Palace. He then repeats a patriotic cry and shouts, “¡Viva México!” three times, according to the Latin Times, before waving the flag of Mexico. The next day, a large parade takes place in Mexico City.

Eco-Market Paamul Beach – Every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Paamul is very small so drive to the beach and ask locally for the location that week.
Akumal Farmers Market – Every Wednesday AND Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The market is just inside the arches close the basketball courts.

Awakening Our Heart’s Intelligence: Activate the Intuitive Heart event is from Dec. 7 to Dec.11, 2016 at the TAO Wellness Center, a fantastic and uplifting venue in the Riviera Maya on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The event will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 7th and end at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday the 11th.
